CARDS and COURTS

SAMPLING OF NEXT UP COURT MARKERS AND PLAYER CARDS

For a long time, we have been “winging it” for open play at the City-County Gym.

With more pickleball players - YAY! - let’s try something new to organize play at the gym on the 6 courts.

Each player has their own “card” with their name on it. Instead of stacking paddles, we will place cards into boxes for Open Play, Intermediate Play and Advanced Play. Players can play where they think is most appropriate for their skill level.

  • If you are playing in Intermediate Play and win a number of your games, you should consider placing your card in the Advanced Play box.

  • If you are in Advanced Play and lose a few games, you should consider placing your card in the Intermediate Play box.

  • Be mindful if you are getting “targeted” or “avoided”. If you are getting targeted, you may be the weaker player on the court. If you are getting avoided, you may be “the best player” on the court.

  • We will have 3 Boxes. One for complete open play. And two for when we have Intermediate play on the east side of the gym and Advanced play on the west side of the gym.

Finding the Right Balance in Rec Play by Pro PB Player James Ignatowich

Pro PB Player James Ignatowich recently said the following about "Finding the Right Balance in Rec Play". There’s a lot of truth to this!

  • 25% of the time - Be the best player on the court to practice aggression and refine advanced shots.

  • 50% of the time - Be evenly matched with other players on your court to test and develop overall game play.

  • 25% of the time - Be the worst player on the court to identify and address weaknesses.
